A Tail about Olly, the rescue greyhound

As of June this year, we have a new member of the Flour Power team! You might have spotted him on our Instagram or on Episode 5, but if not, it's time we introduced you to Olly!

How this all came about --

My partner Ashley was invited to assist his office in donating pet food, toys & supplies to an animal shelter earlier this year. On the day, he was asked to walk a few dogs, one of them being Olly.  I was very jealous of him spending his work day with animals, and was a little grumpy about it for a week or so... 

Olly had captured Ash’s heart, and he couldn’t stop thinking about him, checking their website most days to see if he’d been adopted. We kept having conversations as a couple about if we could take good care of a dog, and did extensive research on greyhounds. Eventually we contacted our landlady to seek permission to get a dog. We waited the better part of a month for a yes, in which time I had managed to go and meet Olly from afar by visiting the shelter. 

And yes, I cried about leaving him behind.

Once our landlady agreed, we applied for Olly online. About a week later, we contacted them to arrange meeting him for the first time, and were told he was already reserved by another family.

We were heartbroken, but set the date to go and meet some of the other greyhounds at the shelter. Upon arrival, we were given some fantastic news - Olly was still available! The other family had decided to go with an older dog. We met and walked both Olly and another greyhound, but our hearts were already stolen by Olly. It felt like fate & meant to be. 

We met Olly several times further over the following 2 weeks before finally bringing him home. It’s been about 2 months now, and he’s been settling in well as part of our family.

He’s a needy, dramatic, always hungry boi, and you’ll be seeing much more of him in the podcast from now on! Including our new YouTube series - Olly Tries! In this series, I’ll baking all kinds of treats for him, and we’ll see if he likes them or not. I’m a woman in my twenties, of course I bake for my dog every week.
